Dominick Cruz has a way of getting under his opponent's skin. Just 25-years-old, he's a master of winning the mental war before the fight hits the cage. Scott Jorgensen isn't falling for Cruz's game. The WEC 135-pound says he'll be getting hand surgery following the fight and be sidelined for up to six months.
"In my opinion that's retarded. It's almost like he making an exuse for a loss, already. 'Oh my hands hurt. I gotta get surgery anyway,'" Jorgensen told ProMMARadio. "Maybe he's playing mind games, I really don't care."
Jorgensen says Cruz is already shot mentally just days before they meet at WEC 53.
"He's looking for sympathy and he's building a built-in excuse. He’s thinking about losing … already has that seed in his head," said Jorgensen (2:35 mark). "That little bit of doubt may be too much for him. Come fight night, he has to make a decision. And I think I know what his decision already is. He’s looking for an easy way out (once the fight gets going)."
The 135-pound WEC champ has stymied recent opponents with his ducking and darting style. Too often, Cruz's victims got frustrated, went into chase mode and were made to look silly. Jorgensen isn't interested in playing Cruz's game on the feet.
"No matter who I fought, they look like they got beat up. I leave guys bruised, battered and I think that intimidates Dominick because he's never faced that," said Jorgensen. "A lot of running is what I feel like he's going to be trying to do. You can’t evade somebody from your back,"
The challenger is warning fans that if the fight is boring, it's not going to be his fault.
Cruz and Jorgensen meet in Phoenix on Thursday (Versus 9 p.m. ET/PT). The winner will be officially awarded the UFC bantamweight title. Check here for the entire 20-plus minute conversation with Jorgensen.

After delivering one of the year's most thunderous knockouts at WEC 53 earlier this month, Eddie Wineland said he was ready for a step up in competition - that his ultimate goal was to recapture the bantamweight title he held four years ago.
Jim Miller's red beard powered his win over Charles Oliveira at UFC 124. Yukon Cornelius' red beard powered him through a snowy winter as he helped guide Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Hermey the Elf Dentist through the snow. Both found success in the cold and snow and will likely have a very nice holiday because of those winnings. For Miller, it's $50,000 for a Submission of the Night bonus. Yukon Cornelius is all about the silver and gold.

Alistair Overeem passed up on some big MMA fights this year to add the label of kickboxing champ to his resume. It paid off.
He suffered some rough moments last year in K-1, but with more dedication to his striking training in 2010, Overeem was a powerhouse in Tokyo this morning.
The Dutchman got better as the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 went along. He won three fights in one night to take the WGP title and did so by beating out several K-1 legends.
By the time, he reached the final without a mark on his face, Peter Aerts was in big trouble. A fellow Dutchman, Aerts traded shots with the beast for about 35 seconds before Overeem overwhelmed him.
"The Reem" trapped Aerts in a corner and drilled him with a right hand followed by a body shot. Aerts fells to his knees. The referee jumped in to give Aerts a ten count, but the 40-year-old legend said he couldn't go any longer. Overeem won the tournament as a plus-205 choice.
The 6-foot-5, 261-pound, Overeem is unofficially the first heavyweight fighter to hold a major MMA belt and win a K-1 WGP title. He's also the Strikeforce MMA champ. The K-1 accolades only add to his reputation as an MMA star.
One downside of the win is the fact that Overeem is a virtual lock to try and defend his K-1 honor in 2011, meaning he'll be locked up for most of the November and December prepping if he can get out of the first round.
Overeem's toughest fight this morning actually came in the opening round.
Overeem is far from slick. He walks straight forward, willing to eat big shots so he can land his own bombs. That approach almost cost him against Tyrone Spong.
Early in the fight, the 231-pound Spong was too fast. Spong caught Overeem with a great counter left hook as the big guy tried a flying knee. It put the Dutchman on queer street. Spong wailed away and landed four or five more huge left hands, and got Overeem on the ropes with 1:45 left in the first. Overeem survived and his power just sapped Spong the rest of the way.
That career-high 231 pounds may have cost Spong in the long run.
Gohkan Saki was the opponent in the semis, but much like Aerts, the Turkish born fighter had to fight a war in his previous bout. Saki and Daniel Ghita kicked the hell out of each for four rounds. Saki won but his body was brutalized.
Overeem looked slow and was easy to hit, but he just waited for the smaller fighter to slow down, then he unleashed two vicious body kicks. The second got Saki to quit. HDNet's Michael Schiavello reported that Saki had broken his elbow and his right hand.
Aerts was looking to become a four-time WGP champ. Unfortunately, the old guy was also a mess by the time he faced Overeem. He ate way too many punches from 6-11, 292-pound Semmy Schilt in the semifinals. Aerts outlasted Schilt in that fight, but the damage had been done. There were actually thoughts he may not be able to fight in the final. Bettors pushed the line minus-450 to minus-645 on Overeem by the opening bell.

Charles Oliveira is a great prospect. The key word is prospect. The 21-year-old was facing a guy with seven UFC wins and a well-rounded game.
Oliveira took Miller lightly on the ground and paid for it.
The New Jersey-native, working from top control in a standing position, transitioned to an ankle lock. Oliveira didn't do much to extricate himself, and Miller cranked back with a kneebar. Oliveira tapped almost immediately giving Miller the win at 1:59 of the first round.
"When I stood up and the leg presented itself, I went for it," Miller said at the UFC 124 postfight press conference. "I really don't care where the fight ends up going. I started attacking the toe hold and he didn't worry about the knee."
Update - Miller split the Submission of the Night award with Mark Bocek and received $50,000 for his efforts.
Miller's appearance must fool people. At just 5-foot-7 with a red beard, he looks like the guy next door. There was heavy betting on Oliveira. By the time the fight went off, Miller was a plus-140 underdog in spite of entering the match with a six-fight win streak.
"Coming into the fight, I was trying to gain a little respect to be honest," Miller said. at the UFC 124 postfight press conference. "We went into that fight with him as the favorite, which I really didn't understand."
"He's got a big future ahead of him, but I knew I've fought a lot tougher guys than he has," Miller said. "I was trying to leave me mark and really get after him."
Even Dana White had his doubts about Miller's chances on the ground with Oliveira.
"When he went for that foot, me and (UFC owner Lorenzo) Fertitta looked at each other and said 'that was stupid.' Then he pulls off that kneebar," White laughed. "Goes to show you what we know. That why he fights and we don't."
Miller (19-2, 8-1 UFC) is a tough nut to crack. His only loss came against Gray Maynard, who is unbeaten in the UFC and challenging UFC lightweight champ Frank Edgar for the title next month.
Oliveira (14-1, 2-1 UFC) was the rage of the division after two dominant UFC wins since August.

Outside of his own camp, few people expected anything good to happen to Fabricio Werdum. He showed up in San Jose, Calif. as a 5-1 underdog against the world's greatest heavyweight. He was, according to conventional wisdom, simply outmatched and underpaid. He was the grinning Washington Generals to Fedor Emelianenko's stoic Globetrotters. Looking ahead to the new year, Cagewriter is turning it up to eleven. In no particular order, here are the 11 things MMA needs for 2011.
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Alistair Overeem: Despite his loss to Fabricio Werdum, the negotiations just to get Fedor fighting in the U.S. again have been treacherous, and now it seems that he will fight Antonio Silva. Meanwhile, Overeem has kept busy making history in K-1. Strikeforce has two of the best heavyweights in the world on their roster. It should not be difficult to get them to fight.
Improved judging: How many fighters need to get screwed by judges before changes are made in MMA's judging system? As the sport continues to grow and improve, parity will follow and more fights will require a judges' call. These fighters deserve competent judges.
A challenge for Jose Aldo: The featherweight champ looked head and shoulders above Faber and Manny Gamburyan in 2010. As fun as it is to watch Aldo beat up on his opponents, someone who challenges him could be much more fun.
Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber coaching on "The Ultimate Fighter": This match-up is full of win. Bantamweights Cruz and Faber are top-flight fighters, already dislike each other, and both come from camps that would provide excellent coaches and training partner cameos. Going with smaller fighters would not only invigorate the TUF franchise, it would also introduce a larger MMA audience to the WEC fighters joining the UFC.
Jason "Mayhem" Miller vs. Nick Diaz: Enough with the trash talk, the viral videos and the catchphrases. Strikeforce needs to make this fight happen.
Georges St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva: The two have been at the top of pound-for-pound rankings for years, and are just one weight class apart. GSP has asked for time to put on weight to fight Silva, who walks around at more than 200 lbs. UFC, give him time, and then let's make this fight happen.
Legal MMA in New York: Seriously, Empire State. Get your act together and legalize MMA. It's ludicrous for a state with a rich history of boxing and wrestling not to allow mixed martial arts.
A rejuvenated Brock Lesnar: Losing his title to Cain Velasquez exposed Lesnar's distaste for getting punched in the face, a liability for someone whose job involves getting punched in the face. It will be fascinating to see how Lesnar reacts to being an underdog, and watching to see if he has the resolve to come back should be an interesting storyline.
More pre and post-fight shows: Here at Yahoo! Sports, there was a pre-fight show for UFC 121. ESPN's "MMA Live" did pre and post-fight shows for UFC 116 and 121, and Versus had shows for the final two WEC events. Every one of these shows added to the MMA viewing experience.
Gilbert Melendez vs. Eddie Alvarez: To compete with the UFC juggernaut, the smart thing for Strikeforce and Bellator would be to team up to make the best fights. This should start with a bout between their two lightweight champions. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney probably ended any hopes for this bout with overzealous negotiation tactics, but it still would be a fun fight for fans to watch.
More Pat Miletich on the microphone: The man is both a legendary coach and fighter, and now he uses his talents as a commentator for Strikeforce. Inexplicably, he isn't always included on their broadcast team. Please, give us more Pat.
Randy Couture's in the land of indecision right now. He's caught between making movies and stepping back into the Octagon at the age of 47.
While on location for his latest movie role in a Bruce Willis film, Couture Tweeted Tuesday night that he's done fighting.
Multiple sources from his gym in Las Vegas, Xtreme Couture, confirmed that Couture has been talking about retirement but were unaware of the Tweet.
Josh Gross from ESPN.com exchanged text messages with Couture and the former UFC light heavyweight/heavyweight champ said he's still open to fighting.
Sources say that Couture was offered Lyoto Machida, but then the offer was rescinded.
Couture wants either Machida or Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
The Rua fight won't happen. After beating guys like James Toney, Brandon Vera and Mark Coleman, Couture still isn't at the front of the line for a shot at Rua's light heavyweight title.
A Machida fight is problematic because there are some within the promotion who worry about the fact that the Brazilian has lost two straight. A third loss in a row would be crushing for "The Dragon."
Couture was offered Quinton "Rampage" Jackson but has his heart set on Machida or Rua. Plus, can you fight someone like Rampage when you're "mixing" a training camp into all of your other endeavors?
Couture's lawyer also told Mike Chiappetta from FanHouse that the Tweet was "not an official announcement."
The Tweet also sounded very similar to what he told ESPNRadio1100 at the start of the month and what he told RawVegas.tv in early November.
It appears the UFC needs to talk Couture into fighting Jackson or Couture needs to convince the promotion that he should get Machida next. Couture seems to be much more intrigued stylistically by a bout against Machida.
UFC president Dana White was unavailable for comment. He and UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta are in Brazil.
The UFC announced another major breakthrough Tuesday. During a press conference in Toronto, Dana White confirmed that the promotion finally has an event set for Ontario in 2011. From an earlier post by the Toronto Sun:
The UFC will stage its first fight in Ontario on April 30 at the Rogers Centre, president Dana White said Tuesday morning. White told media at a press conference at the Air Canada Centre that he expects the UFC 131 event will be the most attended of all time.
The Toronto Sun says a huge crowd is expected.
The provincial government expects that a major UFC event in Ontario would draw up to 30,000 fans and generate up to $6 million for the local economy, including cash from hotel rooms rentals, restaurant meal expenditures and retail purchases.
The promotion, led by the efforts of Marc Ratner, has worked for years to get MMA licensed in Canada's most populated province. It finally got initial approval back in August.
The event is also significant because it will mark the first time the UFC will hold an event in a stadium.
Formerly known as Skydome, Rogers Centre, the home of MLB's Toronto Blue Jays, can seat 49,000 for baseball and 54,000 for football.
Dana White stated on many occasions that he was hesitant to hold an event in such a big venue. The UFC president worried about the integrity of the event. Said White via SB Nation:
"I don't want to do one of these big stadiums and lose the live experience, where it's too big and you're looking down and seeing these little ants fighting inside the Octagon."
UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta was bullish on the possibility. Said Fertitta in October (via TSN.ca):
"It looks like we're going to try and do the Rogers Centre [...] We looked at the [Air Canada Centre] too, but we want to break the record for attendance to MMA... We'll try to get about 40,000 to 50,000 people in there."
most impressive performance in the Octagon in years on Saturday night, putting on a striking clinic in dominating the overmatched John Howard to win the first fight on the UFC 124 pay-per-view card.

The UFC tried something neat tonight by allowing the fans to hand out some bonus money. There was a lot on line. With a near-record gate of $4.586 million, the UFC was handing out $100,000 each to the fighters that the fans said put on the Fight of the Night.
Slap Cagewriter on the back, we called it.
When the news first emerged shortly before the start of UFC 124, we asked if the fans would judge objectively or turn it into a popularity contest?
We got our answer. Georges St. Pierre's destruction of Josh Koscheck (50-45 on all cards) was given the fan's nod as the best fight.
"The reporters aren't happy with it," Dana White joked at the postfight press conference. "It's one of the hazards. (The fans) are always chirping about how we mess it up and here we are."
White thought the real Fight of the Night was on the preliminary card. Sean Pierson and Matt Riddle beat the living hell out of each for three rounds.
The UFC and White even tried to give the fans a gentle nudge by showing the fight on the pay-per-view.
If you cast a vote at UFCvote.com, hope you enjoyed the chance to be the boss, now you're fired.
"They blew their chance," White said. "That's it. It's over."
White said he'd take care of Pierson and Riddle. White also joked with St. Pierre telling him that he owes $100,000 to his buddy Pierson.

The UFC released the opening video for Saturday night's UFC 124, something that, according to Dana White, they have never done. Why release this one? Probably because Georges St. Pierre looked so amped that he was about to jump through the screen.
This is a top-heavy fight card, but with the animosity built up over the taping of "The Ultimate Fighter," Josh Koscheck and GSP seem ready to deliver.

Mac Danzig made quick work of Joe Stevenson at UFC 124 in Montreal, knocking Joe "Daddy" out midway through the first round.
The two were still feeling each other out in the first round when Stevenson charged in to punch Danzig with an uppercut, but Danzig caught him on the jaw with a left hook. Stevenson stiffened and fell straight to the ground. Danzig pounced on Stevenson but referee Dan Miragliotta jumped in quickly, stopping the bout at 1:54 in the first round.
Both men are "The Ultimate Fighter" winners, and this bout was thought to be a "win-or-go-home" bout. This is Stevenson's second loss in a row, as he lost to another TUF alum, George Sotiropoulos, in February. Danzig has had a rough run, battling both losses and injuries to get to this bout. Before this fight, he was 3-4 in the UFC, and one of his wins was in the TUF final.

Tonight is the last event for World Extreme Cagefighting as after tonight, they will be absorbed by the UFC. They are going out with a bang, with two title fights live on Versus. Ben Henderson will try to defend his lightweight belt against Anthony Pettis, and the winner will challenge the winner of Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard for the UFC lightweight belt.
Meanwhile, the winner of Scott Jorgensen vs. Dominick Cruz will leave Glendale, Ariz. with two belts: the final WEC bantamweight championship as well as the first UFC bantamweight belt.
But before looking forward, we look back to our all-time favorite fights from the WEC. In no particular order:
WEC 48: Jose Aldo vs. Urijah Faber -- This fight was huge before the two fighters even stepped in the cage, as it was the WEC's first foray into pay-per-view. As the two biggest stars in the WEC, big expectations loomed for Faber and Aldo, and they delivered. Aldo put on a five-round beating, while Faber showed that he is one of the toughest fighters in MMA.
WEC 36: Mike Brown vs. Urijah Faber I -- It's important to remember that in November of 2008, Faber seemed invincible. He was the face of the WEC and on a 14-fight win streak. But the power of Mike Brown ended that with a first-round TKO.
WEC 48: Leonard Garcia vs. Chan Sung Jung -- Was this fight, shown live on Spike as a lead-in to the PPV, technically proficient? No. Was it fun to watch? Absolutely. Garcia and "The Korean Zombie" didn't let up for one second of the three-round decision for Garcia.
WEC 43: Benson Henderson vs. Donald Cerrone -- In this five-round interim title bout, Cerrone looked on the verge of submitting Henderson several time but Henderson's superhuman flexibility kept him from tapping, earning him the decision and the belt. Though the result was disputed, Henderson has proven with subsequent wins over Cerrone and Jamie Varner that he's a deserving champ.
WEC 40: Miguel Torres vs. Takeya Mizugaki -- This fight was special for me, as it was the first title-fight I had ever covered, but Torres and Mizugaki made it special for everyone who watched it. Torres' stamina was impressive as he won a five-round decision, but Mizugaki was just as impressive in his WEC debut, refusing to stop despite the hard shots Torres was delivering.
WEC 41: Jose Aldo vs. Cub Swanson -- With one flying double-knee, the legend of Jose Aldo Jr. was born. He took just eight seconds to take out Swanson and earn a shot at the featherweight title.
WEC 37: Miguel Torres vs. Manny Tapia -- Front roll axe kick is really all that needs to be said about this fight. Torres TKOed Tapia in the second round of this bout that Torres used to debut several unconventional moves, including a front roll axe kick.
WEC 38: Donald Cerrone vs. Jamie Varner I -- This fight is memorable not just for the fight and its oddball result, but for the feud it set up between Varner and Cerrone that still continues today. The two fought a back and forth battle, but the fight was stopped after Cerrone threw a still-disputed illegal knee. Varner won the decision on the judges' cards, and a hate was born.
WEC 34: Urijah Faber vs. Jens Pulver I -- Just like at WEC 48, Faber, as the face of the WEC, was expected to deliver. The WEC and Versus marketed the bout to the hilt; you couldn't drive one city block without seeing a poster of Faber and Jens Pulver, the UFC pioneer. They came through, with a non-stop five-round bout.
WEC 31: Paulo Filho vs. Chael Sonnen I -- You can pretty much guarantee that some weirdness will happen when Paulo Filho and Chael Sonnen get in a cage. At the end of the second round, Filho had Sonnen in an armbar, and Sonnen yelled out. The referee took that as a verbal submission and stopped the fight. Sonnen said that he hadn't submitted. The two then fought again at WEC 36, and Sonnen won the bizarre decision that featured Filho refusing to engage, asking Sonnen to "rest" during the match and not making weight.
Now that you've read through ours, what were your favorite WEC bouts?

Bellator has signed a three-year deal with MTV2 to air the promotions' fights live, starting with the fourth season in March 2011. The tournament-based promotion, with champions like Ben Askren, will air on MTV2, a station once known for music programming but has grown to air sports-ish programming like "Bully Beatdown," a show hosted by Strikeforce's Jason "Mayhem" Miller, and "Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory," which follows professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek.
From the Bellator press release:
MTV2, which features the highest concentration of M12-24 and M12-34 in television, will telecast two of these LIVE tournaments per year, plus a collection of special feature events. The first tournament will premiere in March 2011.
"MTV2 is the perfect home for the intense mixed martial arts action of Bellator," Eric Conte, SVP, Programming and Production, MTV2. "MMA is at the top of our audience's wish list, and partnering with Bellator to bring live events and specials to MTV2 made complete sense since our viewers are so hungry to see more MMA on-air."
The key word in that is live. Bellator was with Fox Sports Net for their last two seasons, and they were often pre-empted by other local programming. In Chicago, Bellator's hometown, the fights rarely aired live, and sometimes were started after midnight. By the time the fights aired, the results were widely known.
Bellator recognized that and made a change. They also appear to be going after a younger demographic, as most MMA promotions covet the 18-49 year-old male demographic.

These two can't stand each other, going back to April, when Miller jumped in the cage after Diaz's teammate, Jake Shields, won the Strikeforce middleweight belt. A melee ensued, and the two also reportedly almost came to blows after Diaz's June bout with K.J. Noons.
What's the hold-up? Weight. Diaz is Strikeforce's welterweight champ, but has fought at higher catchweights. Miller is a middleweight. The lowest he will go is 183 lbs., while the highest Diaz will go is 178 lbs.
Miller can make all the videos and websites in the world, but until the two can get past a five-pound difference, the fight's not going to happen.

Peter Aerts has won three K-1 titles (1994, 1995 and 1998) and now he's got a chance at another at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 in Japan. The veteran of 17 straight K-1 WGP's pulled the big upset on 6-foot-11 Semmy Schilt.
Aerts' face got torn apart in the first two rounds, but the judges scored it 20-20, 20-20 and 20-19 going to the third.
Even with his right eye cut and swelling badly, Aerts turned it on in the final round. Schilt gassed and ate dozens of big punches.
Aerts, 40, will meet Alistair Overeem in the final. Overeem's power striking was amazing against Gohkan Saki. The hulking Dutchman landed two unbelievable body kicks that changed the fight.
The first stopped Saki in his tracks and essentially turned off his offense. The second one, a left kick to the body, left Saki doubled over. The kick landed on both his right elbow and side. It almost appeared that the arm was broken. When the referee finished his 10 count, Saki said he couldn't go any longer giving the first round win to Overeem.
Saki, the much smaller fighter at just 218 pounds, was flashing excellent speed early. His combinations were dynamite but the 261-pound Overeem walked through most of them.
Saki did get Overeem to the ground when he nailed the 6-foot-5 monster with a spinning kick just 16 seconds into the fight.
Unfortunately for Saki, he had the toughest fight in the quarterfinals. He battled another giant in Daniel Ghita. That fight went the full three rounds and then they needed an extra round to determine a winner.
Ghita's body and leg kicks were nasty throughout. Saki may have been a little softened up by the time he faced Overeem.
Update - HDNet's Michael Schiavello reported that Saki suffered a broken right elbow and broken right hand.
Quarterfinal results:
Aerts def. Mighty Mo via KO 1st round
Saki def. Ghita via split decision
Schilt def. Kyotara via unanimous decision
Overeem def. Tyrone Spong via unanimous decision
