The list of all lists: MMA's top chick magnets

The blogosphere has turned into a daily bombardment of lists and slideshows. It's one of my least favorite things about the Internet. If you want to debate the greatest this and the all-time that, fire away. I'll pass for 99 percent of the time. The only lists I generally enjoy on the MMA side come from the fellas at Cage Potato. CP came up with another doozy as it went all Dirty.com chronicling the biggest [expletive] hounds in mixed martial arts.

Former UFC fighter Dean Lister is the first fighter listed:

Notable conquests: WWE star Milena Roucka (aka 'Rosa Mendes'), model Flavia Mazoni

Notes: 'The Boogeyman' is semi-retired from the sport these days, choosing instead to spend his time training hopeless cases. But in his prime, Dean Lister was just as notable for his ability to attract exotic beauties as he was for his in-cage exploits. Grappling ability plus a cartoonishly strong-looking jawline is a combination that women can't resist, apparently.

Didn't CP miss a few candidates? It's shocking to see Clay Guida omitted from the list. He got a ton of run around UFC 125 for living in a van down by the river. Brian Stann was asked if he was ever invited to the big RV that serves as Guida's home in Albuquerque. He responded by saying (2:40 mark), "I have not been to the Clay Guida RV. If I was better looking, maybe he'd invite me."

Matt Hughes Thinks Georges St. Pierre Is Boring, Overpaid

by Michael David SmithMatt Hughes and Georges St. Pierre had a great trilogy of fights in the Octagon, but their rivalry died down a bit after they fought for the third and final time, with Hughes seeming to have gained a grudging respect for the man who beat him twice.

Or maybe not.

A month after the fact, Hughes has weighed in on St. Pierre's unanimous decision victory over Josh Koscheck at UFC 124, and Hughes is telling St. Pierre the same thing that St. Pierre once told him: "I'm not impressed by your performance."

MMA Top 10 Featherweights: New Year, New Faces

by Michael David Smith
An injury forced featherweight champion Jose Aldo to drop out of his scheduled fight at UFC 125, and while Aldo was on the sideline for New Year's, the featherweight division underwent some radical changes.

The New Year's cards for the UFC, Dream and Sengoku all had big featherweight fights that featured several surprise results, and now that the dust has settled, the featherweight division looks a whole lot different heading into 2011 than it did for most of 2010 -- with the exception, of course, that Aldo is still the king.

Check out our rankings of the rest of the featherweight division below.

UFC pulls rabbit out of the hat with TUF 13 'Lesnar vs. dos Santos'

The UFC looked like it was backed into a corner for Season 13 of "The Ultimate Fighter." The bantamweights weren't an option. Chael Sonnen's away-from-the-Octagon nonsense dashed the plan of having him coach against Wanderlei Silva.

What was left?

It was pointed out earlier in the day that Brock Lesnar made sense, but could Dana White get the cranky former champ to spend seven weeks in Las Vegas? Not only did White pull off the coup of Lesnar on TUF 13, he also got Junior dos Santos as the other coach.

Lesnar and dos Santos will hit the ground in Las Vegas some time in the next two weeks to begin taping for TUF 13. They'll oversee a crew of welterweights.

The TUF 13 Finale comes on June 4 in Las Vegas. Lesnar and JDS will meet shortly after that on a pay-per-view card in June. White said everything came together when Velasquez went down for 6-to-8 months because of shoulder surgery.

"There were a lot of people we were looking at, and then, boom. Cain Velasquez gets hurt," White said. "And I was literally driving to work one morning and I said, 'You know what? This makes sense. Let's see if we can do this.'"

White hinted that getting Lesnar to commit to what will turn out to be a massive time commitment wasn't easy. He also knows the work of managing the big guy's mood has just begun.

"I'm already prepared mentally – it's going to be a tough season," White said. "I deal with Brock in very short spurts. The guy fights two to three times a year, and it's always tough. It's going to be an interesting six weeks of filming. ... (Brock) is not exactly a happy-go-lucky guy. Who knows what's going to happen this season. I do know it's going to be very interesting to see."

White told the media today that the deal was finalized about 10 days ago. He was thrilled to see all the speculation especially in regards to Lesnar's hunger to fight on after his rough loss to Velasquez. Lesnar has a chance to prove he can take a punch without turning and running. JDS is one of the top strikers in the world at heavyweight. The winner of their fight is slated to meet Velasquez upon his return.

No retirement for Couture! May finally get Machida fight at UFC 129

Randy Couture has been in a holding pattern for months while waiting for the UFC to decide his future. He spoke of retirement in just about every public conversation during November and December.

Turns out he was forcing the UFC's hand. Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer is reporting that the UFC legend will get Lyoto Machida at UFC 129 in Toronto.

Update: There are some reports that fight isn't signed yet.

The MMA blogosphere went crazy for an hour earlier this month when Couture said he was done.

Some quick conversation with folks at Couture's gym in Las Vegas indicated that he was done if Quinton Jackson was the only fight being offered.

It was Machida or bust for the former light heavyweight and heavyweight champ. The promotion granted Couture his wish and he'll be the co-main event along with Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields in front of what should be the largest crowd to ever witness an MMA card in N. America at Toronto's Rogers Centre.

Strikeforce tourney audio update: Overeem's belt not on the line and no five rounders

Scott Coker spoke with the media Thursday about the upcoming Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix. Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem is in the tournament, but his belt is not. As a consequence, there will be no five-round fights.

"In this tournament, everyone has to climb the same mountain. We just couldn't put [the five-round fight concept] together," Coker said (1:30 mark). "To make it simple just like they do in Japan ... the tournament champion will stand on his own. And we will have our heavyweight champion and our tournament champion."

The Strikeforce CEO said he was worried about getting all the commissions on the same page.

"It would be a difficult thing to do and we didn't think it was fair for one person to fight five rounds and one person to fight three rounds," said Coker.

After a year where Strikeforce and Coker gave Overeem plenty of freedom to explore fights outside the organization, the boss said in 2011 the fighter is fully committed to this tournament (5:40 mark).

Coker's also a big MMA fan and said if Overeem comes away the victor, it puts him in a new stratosphere.

"If Alistair wins, he'll have proven that he's the greatest, not just MMA fighter or K-1 fighter. He'll say he's the greatest martial arts fighter in the world."

After beating McKee, Volkmann has his sights set on Obama

Jacob Volkmann took a split-decision win over Antonio McKee, and was clearly frustrated by how the fight went. In an interview with FanHouse, he voiced his problems with his performance, then made a sharp right turn towards politics. Skip to the three-minute mark to hear Volkmann waffle about wanting to fight maybe Clay Guida, then switching to the president of the United States.

"Actually, Obama," Volkmann said. Interviewer Ariel Helwani gave Volkmann a chance to walk it back, but he continued. "He's not too bright ... Someone needs to knock some sense into that idiot. I just don't like what Barack is doing."

Regardless of your political leanings, advocating an assault of the president of the United States isn't really a bright idea, either. No one wants a knock on the door from the Secret Service. For the record, Obama has a bachelor's degree from Columbia University and a law degree from Harvard.

Offering to bring two fights a year to N.Y., UFC gets strong support

The economy sucks everywhere. Governmental budgets are being slashed as everyone looks to tighten their belts. New York is no different. The Empire State is looking for new revenue streams, yet its still holding on to the silly view that mixed martial arts is beyond regulation and licensing.

Dean Murray, a N.Y. State Assemblyman, was one of several high ranking officials to attend yesterday's UFC Madison Square Garden press conference/MMA rally.

"The fact of the matter is, this another example of New York being a nanny state. We have to stop doing that. We have to give the choice," Murray during the presser (12:12 mark). "How many TV stations do you have? How many radio stations do you have? You have choices. By us not legalizing this, it's removing that option of all these, literally millions of fans in New York state, having a chance to see their hometown heroes fighting."

Dana White spoke about the impact of bringing two or three UFC events each year to New York.

"The financial study [that HR&A did] is incredibly conservative. In that study we priced tickets cheaper than New Jersey, and we bring a lot of money into that state. We also conservatively projected only two events -- one big PPV at Madison Square Garden, and one upstate, which would be a fight night or a finale or something like that." White told ESPN.com. "But who knows -- maybe we come into New York and we do three events, and you triple whatever that number is. It's absolutely insane and asinine for this not to be sanctioned."

The UFC president pointed out that he's not just fighting for his promotion to land in New York.

"When we're talking about the UFC coming to the state of New York, a lot of other mixed martial arts events will too. Which will create even more revenue. You're going to have all these other organizations that will come here and bring more money in and create more jobs," said White.

Scott O'Neil, the President of Madison Square Garden Sports, said he's a big fan of  MMA and gave a glowing report (2:45 mark) after watching UFC 111 in nearby Newark, N.J.

Jamie Springer of HR&A Advisors estimated that MMA would bring a $23 million impact to New York. The estimates were based on two UFC events each year in New York that would generate $16 million. An additional $7 million would come from 70 more MMA events each year in N.Y. Springer based that estimate on the number of fight cards in states like New Jersey, California and Pennsylvania.
